Pupils share their Heroes of History

This week, Prep School pupils and staff took on a new persona when they tripped back in time for 'My Heroes of History Day'. Inspired by a family member or historical figure, they brought in stories from the past and dressed up to resemble their hero. Needless-to-say, there was an eclectic and highly-imaginative array of historical characters, some of whom you can see in our photos and film below. Head of History, James Fearn, explained:

"The idea was to focus our School on history and celebrate the children's enthusiasm for historical personalities who resonate with them."

Since its inception last year, pupils have celebrated characters including Queen Elizabeth I, the six wives of Henry VIII, World War II pilots, Coco Chanel and Napoleon Bonaparte.

This year, the event was renamed "My Hero of History" to inspire children to find out more from family members about their past. One pupil said:

"I'm my great, great Grandpa from World War One."

Thanks to our skills-based Pre-Senior Baccalaureate (PSB) curriculum introduced last year, greater value is placed on creativity, innovation and teamwork. The PSB also encourages independent and critical thinking, which help develop and challenge opinions: two skills that have proved particularly effective when covering topics in history like the Conspiracy Theories.

Sharing his final thoughts on the day, James Fearn (left in the photo) said:

"I hope children continue to develop their love of history, and are not only inspired by well-known historical figures, but also explore a little further to find those closer to home."

Look out for our short film about the day, coming soon!
